1. Buildings should be attractive and well kept, no matter how old. In fact, some of the most beautiful campuses in this country have the oldest buildings. 2. Walkways should be broad, well lit, and bordered by nice landscaping. True, you’re not going to pick a school because of its flowerbeds, but a pleasant, homey environment doesn’t hurt. 3. The people you meet should be friendly and welcoming. In fact, it may not be surprising if a faculty member stops to introduce him- or herself. 4. The neighborhood surrounding the campus may be old because many American colleges and universities were built more than a century ago, close to the downtown areas. It is not unusual for the neighborhood bordering the campus to be somewhat run-down.
